2286 squadron was formed in 1952 and was initially known as 1459 (Keresley) Detached Flight. This unit was housed in Keresley End Infants School in Bennetts road.

Later in 1952 the unit grew to become a squadron in it's own right and was redesignated 2286 (Arden) Squadron.

The size of the unit continued to grow until there was enough demand to form a detached flight of the squadron. This detached flight was known as 2286 (Coventry Phoenix) DF, it is now known as 163 (Coventry Phoenix) Squadron having been re-designated in June 1973.

2286 (Arden) Squadron moved to its present home at T.A.C. Westfield House in 1992.
