Read on to find out what will happen in your first few weeks as an Air Cadet!

On your First night you will be given a tour and some basic information will be taken from you (Name, Age, etc) by a member of staff.

You will then be shown around the squadron and if you decide to stay you will be introduced to the other cadets. You will be able to take part in squadron activities straight away! At the end of the evening you will be given an information pack for your parents including some forms for them to fill in so that you can join us.

When you next attend you will join other new cadets in our training flight and start to undergo some basic training which will include lessons about the Air Training Corps and R.A.F, training in Map Reading, First Aid and the Rifle as well as team and initiative exercises and some basic footdrill (marching) manouvres.

The questions most new cadets want the answer to is "When do I get my uniform?"

The answer is simple... Once you have attended regularly for 8 parade nights (4 weeks) you can be issued with your uniform and become a fully fledged Air Cadet. Once you reach this stage you are able to represent the Squadron at sports events, go flying, gliding, and many more activities.

Once you have completed all of your initial Training you will take (and pass) an exam and become a First Class Cadet. By this stage you will be able to take part in any activity open to you as an Air Cadet.

Please do not worry that this all sounds a bit like school because we understand that you do not want more studying to do after your homework. School priorities will always come first and there is plenty of support available to help you with the cadet syllabus so you don't get bogged down! The training you will undertake at the Squadron is all specific to things that will help you to get the most out of your cadet experience and you can rely on there always being someone to explain things in more detail if you need any help! If in any doubt ask us!!
