History and Future Plans at 2286 (Arden) Squadron A.T.C.
WHAT IS 2286 SQUADRON??
2286 (Arden) Squadron is a unit within the Air Cadet Organisation and more specifically of the AIR TRAINING CORPS.
In 1938 J.A. Chamier formed an organisation called the Air Defence Cadet Corps (A.D.C.C) and this was the forerunner of the Corps we know today. The A.D.C.C. was established originally to provide young men with skills they needed to fight for their country, in those days there was an entry test including a 100m sprint!
On the 5th February 1941, following the successes the A.D.C.C was having in training young men the Corps received a Royal Warrant from King George VI and became the Air Training Corps. It adopted the motto "VENTURE ADVENTURE."
Since then the A.T.C. has developed into a large military youth organisation for boys and girls and has more than 40,000 cadets in 1000 squadrons all over the U.K. It continues to provide training which is useful for those wishing to join any of the three armed forces but also gives any young person skills which will be useful in civilian life. Above all the Air Training Corps still lives up to it's motto, adopted all those years ago.
The Aims of the Air Training Corps are:
To promote and encourage among young people a practical interest in aviation and the
Royal Air Force.
To provide training which will be useful in the Services and civilian life.
To foster the spirit of adventure and develop qualities of leadership and good citizenship
The ATC Motto is:
Venture Adventure
